Colleagues,

While attempting to enroll as a provider in various insurance

networks including the biggies ie: Blue Cross, Aetna etc. I continue

to come across this policy statement " There is no conclusive

scientific evidence to support the efficacy of acupuncture in the

treatment of pain or other conditions. The majority of randomized,

placebo-controlled studies have failed to demonstrate a treatment

effect or long-term treatment effects with acupuncture " .

While the first response is anger, the second is...Can someone

explain to me how it is possible to say this? It seems we already

have tons of research to the contrary.

To see the list of supporting peer-reviewed publications go to:

www.anthem.com and search " acupuncture " (Policy #ANC.00002)

While it is not the insurance I am concerned about, it is the message

given to a largely uninformed public about OM that I would like to

address as well as improve my own delivery of information.

thanks

Ken
