They need to be practiced daily for a long time. The Swimming Dragon is useful because it is a moving form, whereas the Ba Duan Jin consists of 8 separate moving postures, each of which are repeated 8 or more times. This form works and conditions the entire constitution. Additionally, I recommend that you find a good teacher and not try to learn qigong off tapes.
