I have great respect for the contributions of these men. I especially respect

Heiner Freuhauf as 'ren' in the sense that it is constructed by Hall and

Ames. However, I have conducted a more anthropological interview approach to

the

problem in addition to the literature of Sun Si Miao. Through this process I

found the demonological aspect of gu still very alive and well, primarily in

the Chinese countryside and Taiwan.
