To ensure public access to acupuncture services Ð for instance, to promising addiction therapy Ð a separate category of licensure should be created for professionals who provide only acupuncture, and not the array of traditional Oriental therapies. According to Tom Haines, Dean at PCOM, this refers to detox technicians and not to those who would be able to use acupuncture alone for the full range of health complaints.
