Dear Members

Over the years, I have used the CHA forum to write about all issues I felt were

germane to

the practice of TCM, even if they seemed quite tangential to others at time. A

number of

these topics were in fact so tangential that they would often be accessible by

educated

laypersons interested in medicine, science, politics and history. Comments over

the years

have ranged from enjoyment of the spectacle to contempt at my " latest

sociopolitical

diatribe " . While I still think every word I have ever written on this list has

been topical, I

have decided to restrict my future posts more closely to the study and practice

of chinese

medicine. More general discussion of things like scope of practice, religion,

regulatory

issues, research strategies, etc. will largely be taken up on my new blog from

now on.

The reasons are twofold. One is to free up the list for the topic of herbs. It

has not gone

unnoticed that many members opt out of the clinical discussion because of its

tendency to

drift into controversial tangents. But more importantly, some of the issues I

have raised in

these tangential areas are important not only for our profession, but also other

healthcare

providers, universities, politicians, manufacturers, patients and citizens in

general. I want

these ideas to be more freely accessible throughout the worldwide web, not

limited to a

closed list that does not get crawled by search engines. The blog will not use

undefined

technical jargon like the list, so non TCM folks can follow along. The blog

will be open to

comments, but the comments will not be moderated. However, list members are

free to

cut, paste and quote anything I write and mail it to the list for further

discussion.

Finally, for whatever it is worth, visiting the website is a free way for you,

your patients,

family and friends to support CHA. I know many members cannot afford dues,

conferences and products (I am pretty much in the same boat myself), so we have

to turn

to the public to support us. Its not necessary to buy anything. Just a visit

once in a while

does more than you can imagine. My latest ranting on various subjects can be

found at

A nice job with the blog, Todd. I think this type of

'independent-thinker's' perspective on health care fills an empty niche

in our culture, and look forward to seeing it grow and prosper.
