There is a book out from OHAI press on this alkaloid, called " Compound

Q " if my memory serves me well. A Hong Kong physician isolated the

alkaloid, and it was used with AIDS patients in trials and

'underground', but had too many side effects to be considered by

mainstream medicine.

I took a look at my nowadays favourite books: a series by RENMIN

WEISHENG CHUBANSHI, called ZHONG YI YAO XUE GAO JI CONG SHU, in

yellow and orange- people that went to the PRC must have seen them

in the bookstores. 21 volumes, each volume no thinner than 1000

pages (meaning they would be at least double the pages in a Western

language). Anyway, I found the following:

- some 70 years ago tian hua fen was discovered to have an

abortifacient function. Also used for ectopic pregnancy, aborting a

dead detus. Indeed used as an injection.

- but it is indeed used to treat pregnancy with diabetes. However no

explanation is given. Maybe the herb itself, in low dosage, is not

potent enough to cause problems in pregnancy. If anyone has more

experience, pls let us know.
