Thanks. That helps. For the record, looking into the Weisman dictionary this morning, the only entry under " false " was false shen. No false heat or false cold mentioned that I could quickly find. > " False " conditions in general are extreme excess conditions which > manifest clinically with signs opposite in nature to the actual > condition. Yes, this book does mention something that sounds like Si Ni San's Yang Jue syndrome. " ...Cold limbs and deep pulse [with other signs of heat] are the signs of false cold, because the excessive internal heat hinders the Yang Qi from reaching the exterior, which is also called 'predominant yang screened by yin'... " However, I've never heard the term " screened " used in this context. Interestingly, CAM says something similar. While researching this true/false cold/heat issue this morning, I found the following passage from CAM: Chapter 11: Section II Pathogenesis: 1. Disharmony of Yin and Yang " ...in the course of the progression of disease, cold syndromes may manifest some false heat symptoms, in which excess of yin walls off yang, and heat syndromes may manifest some false cold sympotoms in which excess of yang walls off yin. " Nowhere else in this paragraph is the concept of " walls off " defined, but it reminds me of what Doug and I heard second hand about what J. Yuen is teaching in regards to 'wrapping'. I'll quote his entry here: > His most intriguing idea is of Cold wrapping > pathogens. Once Yang Qi can no longer feed the Cold then the pathogens > can escape. Perhaps we should just track down some authorized discussion group to get this from the horse's mouth. -- Karma isn't what happens, its how we react to what happens. -Sunflower

However false heat is mentioned under " floating heat (effusion) " where it says that this floating heat is a false heat sign observed in exuberant yin repelling yang.
