In Clinical Nephrology in , page 259, the

remarkable efficacy of Dong Chong Xia Cao in severe kidney disease

is written about. Does anyone know if this is only applicable for

wild harvested herb? or can the lab cultivated cordyceps be also of

some benefit?

Thanks in advance for your feedback.

On a similar vein, does anyone know how the polysaccharide content

of the cultivated cordyceps compares with the wild form? I wonder

how much variance there is in wild vs. cultured specimens, and I

also wonder if cultivated strains are selectively bred to have

higher levels of polysaccharides. Anyone out there know?

Also, does anyone know anything about the difference between

cultivated cordyceps from a Chinese pharmacy versus the cultivated

cordyceps powder sold by People's Herbs? I believe that People's

sells ground mycelium (and its extract), while the Chinese

pharmacies carry little bundles that have the caterpillar shape.

Are these grown by infecting soil beds full of live caterpillars

with the fungus and letting it develop naturally? Or is it the

fruiting body of the fungus from the mycelium in a lab? Is the

mycelia or the fruiting body better?

Thanks in advance to anyone who knows some of these answers.
