> Last month, California acupuncturists received hyperbolic

> proclamations from

> our state professional organization that acupuncture was " under

> attack " due

> to the state's sunset review of the performance of the CA Acupuncture

> Board.

> I sent out a differing view that this was an expected process and that

> the

> profession of Acupuncture was not under attack, but that the

> Acupuncture

> Board indeed would have some explaining to do. They were afforded that

> opportunity. Yesterday, Governor Schwarzenegger's Reorganization Plan

> 1,

> " REFORMING CALIFORNIA¹S BOARDS AND COMMISSIONS " was delivered to me.

> In it,

> the rationale for downsizing 88 boards is presented. Yes, the

> Acupuncture

> Board is one board that has been determined to be unnecessary...along

> with

> the medical, chiropractic, dental, pharmacy, physical therapy and many

> other

> boards. Were all these professions under attack? No, no more than

> acupuncture was. The California government has determined that these

> professions can be more effectively regulated and with more

> accountability

> and more transparency by way of the Dept. of Consumer Affairs rather

> than by

> their boards. The sky was and is not falling. Acupuncture is a

> recognized

> medicine in California, highly valued by the politicians, and more

> headlines

> about acupuncture's efficacy for knee arthritis in " small " papers like

> the

> Wall St. Journal, NY Times, and others?

>

> I will print the Governor's report and put it in the library and will
