Guest guest
I am currently treating a 26 y.o. patient with 2 rectal abscesses that are non-healing. He has had them for 2 months now and after having undergone three 7 day courses of Cipro, the abscesses persist. The patient complains of soreness in the rectal area on bowel movement. The patient was diagnosed with Crohn's disease in 2001 and has had marginal improvement in symptoms of fatigue, bloating (especially in RLQ), belching and fatigue since beginning acupuncture and herbal treatment in late 2002. He has loose stools 3-4 times daily. I have diagnosed him with dampness and heat in the lower Jiao, along with qi and blood stagnation and phlegm accumulation in the lower Jiao, with and underlying Spleen qi deficiency. Patient tends toward anemia, for which he takes an iron supplement, which exacerbates his bloated feeling. Below is an herbal formulation I had prescribed with marginal success: 10 Bai Zhu 5 Ban Xia 5 Dan Shen 8 E Jiao 8 Hou Po 5 Huang Bai 10 Huang Qi 8 Kun Bu 8 Mu Xiang 5Ren Shen 5 San Qi 13 Shao Yao 5 Wang Bu Liu Xin 5 Zhi Gan Cao. This was administered as a Sun Ten granule preparation and after taking for 2 months, patient developed a sensitivity to the granules in the form of throat itching and constriction. So I currently have him on Mayway Tea pills: 12 Xiao Chai Hu Tang TID and 12 Long Dan Xie Gan Tang. I have also tried Bu Zhong yi qi powder with little success. Point prescriptions have been standard zang fu protocol for the above stated diagnosis (4 doors, st36,39,sp3,10, lv3, ren 3, li11, sp9) with many modifications. Again, he isn't getting better. I have not tried any suppositories yet, but advised the patient to use witch-hazel wipes to keep the area clean. Any suggestions 0n an alternative approach or success stories on similar cases would be greatly appreciated. Thank you in advance.
