Guest guest
Does anyone know if Patrinia has any active ingredients in the sulfur family? I understand it is very useful for LI bleeding and Ulcerative Colitis, but my patient is unable to metabolize sulfur. Kayte It contains saponins, glycosides, essential oils, organic acids and plant sterols. There may be sulfur in some of these. Sulfur appears in all living organisms, so I am not sure how one could be allergic to it in the organic form. One could be allergic and/or hypersensitive to sulfa drugs, sulfites (such as appear naturally in wine and are typically added to commercial wines) and sulfur dioxide (which is sometimes used to preserve dried fruits - this would be the form on sulfured gou qi zi in many cases, for example). As long as you use herbs or products made from herbs that are guaranteed unsulfured, then none of the latter agents is present. But the absence of any and all sulfur molecules is not possible nor necessary. I believe this concern about sulfur results from a misunderstanding amongst many patients and even practitioners about the differences between various sulfur compounds, sulfa drugs and elemental sulfur. Our bodies are held together by sulfur compounds. As far as I can tell, none of the constituents of patriniae herba are similar to either sulfites, sulfas or sulphur dioxide. Guest guest
Thanks Todd I for one belong to those " practitioners that are unaware about the differences between various sulfur compounds, sulfa drugs and elemental sulfur " I just wanted to be sure and double check before becoming another statistical " iatrogenic " problem! One more thing - Did I miss some class where we discussed the relevance of herbs containing saponins, glycosides, essential oils, organic acids and plant sterols etc... ? Or is that just enlightenment that demands we pursue self-study? - Any suggestions as to good sources for this? Hope you guys are not too wet in Mission Valley - we're having a glorious early spring in the Black Hills Kayte , " " wrote: > > , " acupuncture4health " > <acupuncture4health@r...> wrote: > > > > Does anyone know if Patrinia has any active ingredients in the sulfur > > family? > > Kayte > > It contains saponins, glycosides, essential oils, organic acids and plant sterols.
