China INTRODUCTION: The Ministry of Science and Technology (MOST) is a governmental agency that is responsible for the formulation and implementation of national science and technology R & D plans. One of its important missions is to strengthen international cooperation in science and technology with other countries especially with developing countries. Since 1989, international technical training workshop /courses on various subjects have been conducted in China every year under the auspices of MOST as a part of its international scientific and technical cooperation programs. The first session of international training workshop on traditional chinese veterinary medicine and techniques in developing countries, Sponsored by Department of International Cooperation of MOST, Organized by Institute of Lanzhou Animal Science and Veterinary Pharmaceutics, Chinese Academy of Agricultural Sciences, will be held in Lanzhou, China 2005. WORKSHOP DESCRIPTION 1. Objectives The program is aimed to promote the international exchanges of Traditional Chinese Veterinary Medicine and enhance the influence of traditional Chinese literary. It will help to let the developing countries to study and achieve excellent techniques so as to overcome technical barrier in international trade of animal products. Meanwhile, the techniques in prevention and treatment of animal diseases will be promoted by studying and drawing on the advanced experience of other countries. The needs of international veterinary medicine market will be known further and it may accelerate exports of products and techniques in Traditional Chinese Veterinary Medicine. 2. Duration Aug. 2-12, 2005 (10 days) 3. Location Institute of Lanzhou Animal Science and Veterinary Pharmaceutics, Chinese Academy of Agricultural Sciences, 211 Jiangouyan Road, Xiaoxihu, Lanzhou 730050, China 4. Climate and geographic characteristics Gansu, lying on the upper reaches of the Yellow River, is one of the cradles of Chinese nation, with the famous ancient Silk Road and new Eurasian Continental Bridge traversing the whole province. Gansu is a multinational province, with a population of 24.68 million, and 45 minority nationalities. There are 14 prefectures and cities and 87 counties and districts in Gansu. Lanzhou, capital city of Gansu province, is the second largest city in northwest area of China with a population of 2.7 million. Lanzhou has a temperate monsoon climate with the marked transitional characteristics of a continental climate. It has a temperature of 23 to 32°C, around 1000 – 2000 meters above the sea level. 5. Workshop Language Chinese (with English translation) STRUCTURE Part 1. Lectures * Basic theory of Traditional Veterinary Medicine * Veterinary acupuncture * Traditional Chinese Veterinary Medica * Chinese Veterinary Therapeutics and Pet diseases treatment with Traditional Veterinary Medicine * Development of Traditional Chinese Veterinary Pharmaceuticals compounds and their preparations Part 2. Demonstration and Practice * Demonstration of Chinese Veterinary Medicine & acupuncture treatment techniques; * Clinical practice of the participants Part 3. Discussion and exchange 1. Presentation of papers from participants 2. Exchange of experiences and discussion among participants Part 4. Summary Summary the workshop and discuss the potential cooperation on use of herbal medicine in animal production between China and participate countries QUALIFICATION Applicants should 1. have a Bachelor’s Degree and be a specialist in the field of Veterinary Medicine or Animal Science; 2. have a minimum of 3 years’ working experience 3. be capable of speaking and writing in English * be in good health APPLICATION 1. Applicants should complete the application form with signature and return back to the organizer before June 30, 2005 2. The second circular will be sent to the participants with formal invitation and tentative schedule of the workshop as well as travel information. * Submit health certificate EXPENSES 1. International travel expenses between his/her home country and Lanzhou will be paid by the participants. 2. Registration fee is not necessary 3. Chinese government will cover the expenditure of accommodation, local transportation and training expenses during the workshop in China for the participants from developing countries. However, participants are advised to have some pocket money for personal purpose such as distance call or daily necessities. 4. Participants from developed countries should cover their own expenditure related to the training workshop, including accommodation, transportation and other expenses in China. CERTIFICATE Participants who have completed study successfully in the training workshop will be awarded a certificate issued by the Department of International Cooperation of MOST and the Institute of Scientific and Technical Information of China. NOTICE 1. The health certificate must be valid, provided by authorized physician or hospital. 2. The deadline for the Application Form will be June 30, 2005. 3. The participants should bear his/her medical fee himself/herself during the workshop.
