Guest guest
Dear Roger, As I'm still a student, I'm not sure if I'm the level of practioner you're looking for to participate in this experiment. However I was a professional musician in my pre-TCM life--classical singer, pianist and violinist--so this is a subject of great interest to me. If you're not familiar with his work, you may want to check out the 19th C Swiss musicologist/pedagogue named Emile Jacques-Dalcroze. He's not so in vogue today, but he was extremely well known in his day. Folks like Piaget, Isadora Duncan, D.H. Lawrence, to name a few, were strongly influenced by his work. What I'm thinking of specifically is his writing about the physical effects of rhythm and harmony. I'm not sure how much of his writing is published in English. If you can read French, there's much more available. If I ever do a PhD I've considered looking at the applications of Dalcroze's work to TCM, or vice versa, as a thesis topic.
