Guest guest
I think in order for these experiments to be valid--or effective--you have to be using recordings of performances with adequate harmonic and rhythmic accent, phrasing, and nuance. (This is the influence of my years of Dalcroze Eurhythmics training talking. See previous post.) I just don't think the bland, vanilla, ho-hum shlock that passes for much of classical music performance today is adequate to be able to produce the affects/effects you seek. Why else are so many people bored or turned off by classical music?! Certainly it's foreignness has a bit to do with it--classical music is no longer our vernacular. But most of the drooping eyelids are a result of uninspired, uneducated, and under-rehearsed performances, IMO. --Sarah Rivkin saydit
