Guest guest
Researchers at the University of Minnesota Medical School have discovered a possible relationship between the use of Viagra and nonarteritic anterior ischemic optic neuropathy (NAION). Researchers say there have been 14 known cases in which men have suffered a 'stroke of the eye' shortly after taking the drug used to cure erectile disfunction. Lead researcher Professor Howard Pomeranz said that all men who have suffered a stroke of the eye should be asked about use of Viagra so that any link can be more firmly established. I find this to be an intriguing indication of Viagra's effect on the TCM Liver. Addressing Liver Blood stagnation in the Jade Tendon gives rise to a side effect in the eyes. Professor Pomeranz also reports that " For years, we've known that some men who take Viagra will experience temporary color changes in their vision and see things as blue or green. " How interesting is that? The color of the wood element is Qing, sometimes translated to " blue green " . So, Viagra addresses the movement of Liver Blood to the Jade Tendon. Its mechanism is really about relaxing the smooth muscles in the corpus cavernosum and thus allowing more blood to enter the penis giving rise to, well, a more giving rise. : ) But its side effects are all about the vision. Fascinating. This NAION pathology is an inflamation of the optic nerve, with a few different risk factors which include hypertension. Interestingly, there is some interest in the use of Levodopa in the treatment of NAION. Levodopa of course is the drug used to address Parkinsonian tremors, stiffness and slowness of movement, all of which point to the Liver and its association with wind and movement disorders. Would TCM protocols designed to protect the (TCM) Liver make Viagra safer for men? We'll see. http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/health/4400241.stm -- Pain is inevitable, suffering is optional. -Adlai Stevenson
Guest guest
Nice posting Al. The research indicated men between the age of 50 and 69. IMO, most users of V is the younger crowd. Maybe there is no noticeable symptoms at those ages because the Jade Tendon is at a relative excess stage (a prepondence normal at that stage of life). The popular belief is that V is a tonic makes Body Stronger hmmm good. Yet V may have a net purging effect on the body. Pulling resources away from " non-essential components " to where the demand is. Pulling resources from the Interior to be expelled through the Exterior. So V would be a drastic purgative and treatment following should be aimed at tonifying the liver yin and more so kidney yin. As opposed to current TCM though which focus on kidney yang deficiency. Treatment with American Ginseng rather than Korean Ginseng. Ed Kasper LAc. Licensed Acupuncturist & Herbalist Acupuncture is a jab well done www.HappyHerbalist.com Santa Cruz, CA.
