Guest guest
What drew me to Asian Medicine in the mid-seventies was the different conception of the body and therefore life. Just missing the time when I might have been drafted (and having endured several militaristic gym instructors) my body seemed to be a political tool. Then I ran across this little brown Do-in book, printed in both French and English. Western Medicine helps the earth body keep going, as I guess our military keeps us safe, but as the recent horror-show in Florida shows us, there is little WM can tell us about ourselves within Nature. I think all of us have had patients who refused Western Medicine or even our own treatments so they may go out on their own terms. Interesting how many of them take a trip back to the home town before hand. Really, non-Western medicines will always survive as long as humans feel some connection to heaven even as we often cling to earth. I'm not sure how attractive or useful CM is as " a better Western Medicine " or even better Science. Which brings me to a book called About Face by Simone T. Malikalim, a white Muslim deeply embedded in the African American community. It's a semiotic analysis of Race and he concludes that European fear of Africans is Europeans tendency to fear death itself. (Reading it also provides insight into why there is such a polarity between African and Asian cultures) So we can look at all these herbs stalled on the docks of the US not just as a " safety " matter but a chance for Western Science to once again reassert itself over the processes of nature. But should doctors get involved in such talk... probably not. doug , " " <alonmarcus@w...> wrote: > I don't want to see the profession become > too rigid at the same time. > >>>>Agreed > > > >
