Guest guest
Just a note - The NYT indicated that for the moment anyway, this lifting of the ban was only in Utah, not anywhere else. Also, unfortunately many are using this as further reason to overturn/change DSHEA. Kennedy would like to insert the seeming innocuous provision that would prohibit supplements that present a " reasonable possibility of harm " - and who is going to determine what reasonable is? Guest guest
Todd. As responsible health care practionoor' I do hope " we " can get it right this time. Personally it feels great to see " thems " get it once again. But it is a shallow if that victory if it simply means the return of Phyto-drugs. Ephedrine, isolated and concentrated derived from the herbal plant ma hunag is a dangerous substance. Ma Huang is a herb used in our practice safely. Herbalist, especially Chinese herbalist know this. Problem is ... no one bothers to ask a Chinese herbalist ... Why ??? Ed Kasper LAc. Guest guest
Exactly the right question. There is no one who speaks to the media on our behalf. We really need to look into this problem. Guest guest
The Jiao Shude Formula book is out and it looks great. I think it will have a bigger impact in the clinic than the Herb book. Congratulations should be extended to all involved.... doug
Guest guest
It is a great book, and the best thing about it is the personal experience and conversational style of Jiao Shude. Guest guest
Let's not forget that aspirin is just as dangerous and contributes to as many if not more deaths. The public needs to learn about what it is taking. Mike W. Guest guest
Good reason to vocalize this is no different than OTC drugs. People need to accept some responsibility for what goes into them. Guest guest
cara, welcome back. The associations and lobbyist keep asking a penny for my thoughts and I keep putting in my two cents and wondering where's the change!!! Lets fire the associations/lobbyists and get a publicists - the Madison Avenue hypes, ah er types. as a note: former US senator, Billy Tauzin, (R-La.), recently retired from Congress. In addition to his 85 thousand dollar annual retirement package, he now gets close to two million dollars per year as head of a pharmaceutical association. In Congress he was -- big surprise -- on the committee that " regulates " pharmaceuticals. Billy should be congratulated on pulling himself up by his bootstraps, from the poverty of Congress to the real money of private enterprise. Ed Kasper LAc. The real deal with ma huang is this: I have never read a case of a death associated with ma huang that was unequivocally from the herb. ZERO people have died from ma huang/ hb ephedra. The people that died either ingested ephedrine- the isolated alkoid or most commonly a combined herb-herb or drug herb interaction. Or took too much. Or when there were medical contraindications. or or or...... No one has died from ma huang alone. with warmest regards, Cara And its cheap to talk with the media. Where are the associations? Mike W. I am interested in finding practitioners/ doctors who have clinical experience in any number of internal medicine topics: cancer, gastroenterology, wen bing, pao zhi, dermatology. My interests are across the board. The school is in Maryland. I would be grateful if anyone has any leads in this part of the country. -- Cara O. Frank, R.Ac, Dipl Ac & Ch.H. Guest guest
Why aren't the national groups speaking to the media? The media is almost the most powerful thing in this country (along with corporations). We need to make use of them better. , acuman1@a... wrote: > > In a message dated 4/15/05 3:06:54 PM, zrosenbe@s... writes: > > > > Exactly the right question. > > > > There is no one who speaks to the media on our behalf.
