If anyone had tried to tell us that the power to control bacterial infections was just around the corner, that open-heart surgery or kidney transplants would be possible within a couple of decades, that some kinds of cancer could be cured by chemotherapy, and that we would soon be within reach of a comprehensive, biochemical explanation for genetics and genetically determined diseases, we would have reacted in blank disbelief. We had no reason to believe that medicine would ever change.... What this recollection suggests is that we should keep our minds wide open in the future. Guest guest
Something gained, something lost. While no one can dispute the major advances in medical technology, especially in surgery, it is precisely the loss of the ART of medicine that is a significant problem. Chinese medicine is still largely an art, and this is what has attracted many of us to its practice in the first place.
