Guest guest
Alon and all, This is a very important personal issue for me, because of my wife. The pathogenesis of Yin and Blood deficiency creating a void which then is filled in with wind (as manifested in muscle spasms and twitching) and phlegm heat (seizures) really hits home. I can clearly see that cause and effect relationship with her. Yet, the delicate balance of supplementing yin and blood without creating stagnation has been a daunting and frustrating task, which has continued to stump my mentors. (Forgive me for not continuing to post the weekly progress, but my time has not allowed for it.) One different approach Ed Kasper had suggested was to address the stagnation first by taking a very large dose of Da Huang powder. We actually did that the past two weeks, increasing the dose to 6g/day, to prevent accumulation, and though it did reduce the internal heat somewhat, it did nothing for the phlegm, and yesterday she had 5 seizures, during which massive amounts of thick, clear, almost gummy phlegm drooled from her mouth and could be heard in her breathing. Yes, the Da huang addresses one element, heat, and yes the FSR does definitely calm her shen and settle the wind, but little has helped to resolve the phlegm (refer to the 14 posts on the formulas prescribed over the past 3 months). Could we also not contend that this is an application of the principle we find with necrotic tissue, that the space will always will always be filled in by bacteria? Guest guest
Yehuda There has obviously been many CM thinkers that have used this image and as you state it probably makes some sense. I just cant stand the arrogant attitude some have based on a " Correct Way " of what is so called true and not true CM. It is very ironic that on the one hand Bob (and others) have access to original materials which is vast and on the other hand he/they decide one perspective (or statement) is uninformed. I guess the ego is live and well if one speaks and reads Chinese or not. What did Scheid say, so-called professional State Chinese med teaches only 7 out of more than 100 diagnostic systems used by doctors in China. As to clinical approaches for your dilemma, i have studies with various teachers that would approach it vary differently from attacking evil (purging school) to those that would say that right qi and evil are mixed and therefore one should treat both at the same time, to those that would say it would be very important to use mild and neutral tonification for prolonged period to recover right qi without supporting evil or damaging right qi. That is why we need more science injected into our medicine. Oakland, CA 94609
Guest guest
Alon, I agree all the way until your conclusion... where does " science " have to do with any of the treatment methodologies that should be weighted? I believe it is a vacuum that has been created by excess and that it is an excess that has to be treated. Ed Kasper LAc.
