I recommend 2-4 ml Vitex agnus-castus (a relative of man jing zi) in a 1:5

tincture ( I make my own but I generally recommend Herb Pharm as a brand) taken

before breakfast each day. This herb significantly inhibits basal and

TRH-stimulated prolactin secretion.

Thomas

P.S. Here is an abridged version of my (CM) monograph on the plant:

Vitex

Vitex agnus-castus

Verbenaceae

Fructus Vitex Agni-Casti

Common name: Chaste Tree Berry

Qi and Flavor: acrid, bitter, neutral

Channels entered: liver, heart

Actions: regulates hormonal balance

Functions & Indications: Courses the liver and rectifies qi for binding

depression of liver qi affecting the ren mai and chong mai with symptoms of

menstrual pain, menstrual block, premenstrual swelling of the breast, menstrual

irregularities, ovulatory pain and other premenstrual problems. Also for other

patterns associated with binding depression of the liver when the stagnation has

affected other organ systems either by impediment of qi or by the transference

of heat from the liver due to long-term liver depression. An example of such a

pattern and condition that can be treated in this way is heat in the stomach and

lung, due to liver depression, causing acne.

Moves qi and frees the network vessels to free milk and promote

lactation. For lactation stoppage or decrease due to qi stagnation with

distention and fullness of the breasts, thin tongue fur, and a string-like

pulse.

Cautions: Vitex is not for use in post menopausal women.

Dosage and Preparation: 3-9g in decoction; 2-4ml tincture; 1-3ml fluid extract;

0.5-2g powdered extract.

Good quality is whole, gray-black and aromatic.

Re: DX

By the way, have we forgotten that the Department of Consumer Affairs already

provided a legal opinion that LAcs are authorized to diagnose disease? Why then

so many people on this list are willing and eager to accept a much more

restrictive interpretation?

Thanks Thomas. Would you give this in combination with other herbal treatment or

just use it on its own?
