Acupuncture and TCM software

First of all, I would like to thank all of you who responded to my

question about the gate points...

I recently came across this software. Does anyone have any input about

the quality or the usefullness of this software.

I went thru the presentation they had on their website and it actual

looks pretty good.

The cost is not bad either, the only drawback is you can only install

in onto 2 computers.

I would appreciate any feedback

Hi Brian,

I don't know about the software you mentioned but several of my students have

recently purchased Qpuncture (I'm pretty sure that's what is called). I looked

briefly at it on a handheld and it seemed pretty cool and very thorough,

searchable, etc. I believe it is reasonably priced as well.

Check it out,

Thomas

How useful do you find the software and is it pretty accurate when used. I

understand there is a newer software program that is in development, do you have

any information on it.

When using the software, is it time consuming and how has your results been with

using it with the patients than not using it

Thanks

Brian

I just went through the flash demonstrations. It looks like superbs stuff. I'd

say it appears

to trump the Acuvision software I mentioned last year and is much cheaper. It

makes

good use of both ranking for relevance and wizards to guide the process. The

wizards

give the program a simple lesarning curve compared to Acuvusion and Shen

Acupuncture.

The only caution I would make it that it leads you to a sinle formula if you let

it. an

advanced user would look at a number of choices and patch together a formula

from all.

You can easily use the program to do this, though. It also has grat formula

writing

features. The search features are similar to Herbal tutor in that you can

choose many

different filters and rank the results.

The main issue with this type of product is always garbage in, garbage out. So

it is

designed and programmed by folks who know what they are dong and worked with

expert

clinicians. Now the question is whether they used good source material. It is

likely they

used board apporved texts and the most recent material, which also improves on

Acuvision, which uses many outdated books as sources. If they offer a demo or

30 day

money back, I would definitely get one. If it works as good as it looks, it is

probably the

best combination product out there. I still think the Herbal tutor seems more

comprehensive for herbs and has other valuable features, but you can't beat the

price of

Acuexpert if it works reliably.

It is the use of wizards that make for the best electronic Performance support

Systems. An

example is turbotax or HRblock's online program. I believe Roger is currently

working on an

expert systems version of HT, so don't drop your money elsewhere too quick.

Perhaps he can

comment. The best EPSSs have as close to day one usability as possible.

Acuexpert

embraces this idea; if they pull it off, fantastic.

A bit of a pain, but they are just trying to protect their property which is

ripped off so widely.

BTW, this is a reminder that much TCM content is largely public domain.
