Yes, in the case of some herbs, like charred jing jie, I won't substitute the raw for the charred since the action is so different. In other cases, as in treating Sp qi xu, I'll use raw bai zhu, for instance, if I can't find the toasted. I've been looking at more suppliers since I posted my question, and have found others that offer more of the processed medicinals. I have been using Mayway a lot because I like their commitment to testing herb purity and shipping takes just one day, but they don't have as many processed herbs as other suppliers.
