High doses can cause damage to the central nervous system, internal bleeding and necrosis of the internal organs according to The Toxicology of Chinese Herbs (Zhong Yao Du Li Xue). 1989; 154-155. It is recommended to decoct this herb fo 1 to 2 hours to reduce the toxicity ( If you can find it!). Thanks for posting the interesting article.
