Guest guest
Hi All, & Bruce, > I forgot to ask what is a decent substitute for Xijiao (rhino horn)? > > -Either Cornu Bulbi Shui Niu Jiao or, less appropriate, Sheng Di Huang > Fresh Rehmannia. Bruce Ferguson See: http://tinyurl.com/78qhg Antipyretic Effect of Xi Jiao and Shuiniujiao in Children: Fua-Jew Tsai China Medical College Hospital. Xjiao was usually used as an antipyretic drug in taiwan but it's effect is still unknown. A double-blind study compared the efficacy; safety and cost of Xijiao, Shuiniujiao, placebo, and acetaminophen in 142 children (3 to 114 months of age) with fever (38.5-40.5DegC). Ear temperatures were obtained before and 15', 30' and 45 minutes after the dose. An obvious antipyretic effecacy was observed in acetaminophen treated group at 15', 30' and 45 minutes after treatment. Fever reduction was demonstrated in Xijiao treated group at 15 minutes after treatmint, but antipyretic effect was not clear at 30 and 45 minutes after treatment. All treatments were well tolerated. No significant clinical or laboratory abnormalities were noted. Since Rhino is going to extinction and antipyretic effecacy of Xi jiao is less effective than acetaminophen, Xijiao is NOT recommended for isolated used in febrile children.
