Guest guest
As your new moderator of CHA I pondered this question from Carol and let it through because I have really have no idea what a liver detox formula is... or rather what it means to detox the liver. I hear this from my patients a lot, a LOT, but without tied to a syndrome I'm at a loss. Others? doug , " Carol Lavoie " <moonangel@c...> wrote: > > Hi - CAn someone please recommend a high quality liver detox forluma? > thanks > Carol >
Guest guest
Doug, You might try the Arise and Shine Cleanse by Dr. Anderson, ND. As organs accumulate stuff (undigested food, pathogens, mucus, etc) they tend to get more sluggish in function so I would guess this falls into a pattern of qi stag with food stag as the main things but could be complicated with many others as well. The concept of fasting has some connection to this as it would give the body a break and work to digest old material. Hope this helps. Mike W. It is an interesting question and probably most appropriately answered through the eyes of 'functional medicine'. Clearly supporting the Phase II pathways (or just balancing Phase I and Phase II) will aid in detoxification, and anything that provokes a discharge of stored toxins from either cells or the extra-cellular matrix would be considered detoxing. But the real question is how this relates to ? What herbs can accomlish either of these in unclear to me. Since CM really has no liver detox formulas, as of yet, it seems difficult to answer. I am sure the answer is there and I do think the bridge between functional medical and CM has started to be built. I look forward to further discoveries in this realm. I am equally mystified by TCM teachers and practitioners who talk about the need for liver detox. Toxic heat as a TCM concept is a bit difficult to nail down, but if you look at the functions of the herbs described as having that function, you can get into the ball park, but at no point have I seen " toxic heat " having anything to do with " liver detox " . But I do think there is a need to detoxify the liver in many people or should one say aid in its ability to detox (via phase I & II) as well as prevent unnecessary creation of toxins that the liver must handle (i.e. from gut dysbiosis)... I also think that most of the practitioners that squawk about this need, know very little of what they are talking about, and are just parroting the modern lingo (detox detox detox) and thinking hmhmm.. 'milk thistle' - But I would image herbs like bai shao and chai hu will be shown to aid in this process, but it is so hard to say without research. It is just a different way of viewing the body. I see no reason that these 2 worlds will not merge. -
