Guest guest
I want some of the veterans and even more recent grads on this list to play the role of career advisor to those who may be just starting out their education in OM. If you were 25 y.o. today, would you choose a career in OM? Why or why not? Has it been an easy career path? A rewarding career path (however you define that)? What specific advice would you give? What skills or temperament does one need to succeed? Has anything important changed in the past 20-30 years that would cause you to choose differently today than you did then? Students are often advised in these matters by those who have a vested interest in selling something to them, be it schools, vendors or professional organizations. Students rarely get to hear honestly from their peers before they have invested too much in their education to turn back. So share, if you will. Guest guest
I would agree once again. However as a teacher I'm also not that happy to see students who skip classes or otherwise don't even try to learn because they know they have the other skills to suceed financially. Put a sharp and inquisitive mind together with those other features of confidence, charisma etc... then you have a really successful practioner that we can be proud of. doug , " Heiko Lade " <heikolade.acnm@x...> wrote: > > one more point > For the past 5 years I have been very accurate in picking which students in first year will actually finish their course and then run a succesfull clinic when they finish, as well as predicting which students will have a busy clinic when they do their student clinical training at college. > confidence, charsima, experience, basic communication and people skills count most. > Getting top grades or memorzing the materia medica or Deadmans book do little when you set up practise. > Some of these things colleges can never teach > > Heiko Lade > M.H.Sc.(TCM) > Lecturer and clinic supervisor > Auckland College of Natural Medicine > Website: www.acnm.co.nz > >
