Guest guest
Eric, Thanks for the clarification, very much appreciated. What is the term for " false labor " and how is it defined? I am unable to find it in any English literature I have here, though unfortunately I don't have my entire library here in Hawaii yet. Thomas " Eric Brand " The Chinese phrase that literally means " slippery fetus " (hua tai) is generally translated as habitual miscarriage. It is different than false labor, and is defined as follows: Miscarriage successively occurring three times or more. Habitual miscarriage is attributable to qi vacuity, kidney vacuity, blood heat, blood vacuity, or external injury. It is mentioned in the Yi Zong Jin Jian. See the original text below. This contains Chinese verse, then annotations written by the original authors (Qing Dynasty- the most recent dynasty). After the original annotations are additional notes by Bob Damone, the primary editor of the text. This excerpt is from the Paradigm Publications text Heart Approach to Gynecology, Essentials in Verse- this text is the gynecology section of the yi zong jin jian. When the months of pregnancy are sufficient and the mother has abdominal pains that come and go but has no pain in the lumbar region, this is called ¡§fetus playing.¡¨ In this situation, it is best to not act rashly. Neither indicates the time of birth. Do not be troubled or perplexed, but simply remain quiet and peaceful and await the time of birth. 1. Fetal testing ( & #35797;L shi4 tai1): Intermittent uterine contractions that resemble those of labor yet occur before the pregnancy has reached its full term. In modern Western medicine, the occurrence of uterine contractions after three months of gestation is known as a Braxton Hicks sign. The name derives from the nineteenth century English gynecologist who described them. 2. Fetal playing (§ËL nong4 tai1): Intermittent uterine contractions that resemble those of labor and occur after pregnancy has reached its full term. Some sources use fetal playing and fetal testing interchangeably. In modern Western medicine, this is known as Braxton Hicks sign (see note 1 above) and also as ¡§false labor.¡¨ The latter term has fallen out of favor with some Western obstetricians and midwives who see it as misleading and who construe these contractions as ¡§uterine exercises¡¨ that have intrinsic value in preparing the uterus for the work of labor to come.
