Guest guest
Hi All- Is it true that if a person has a pathogen, acute or latent, and they take tonifying herbs, they will, in effect, be tonifying the pathogen? I had heard this from several teachers when I was a student, and now I am thinking this through. I know there are formulas that tonify a deficient patient in order to permit them to vent the pathogen. But is it possible that tonification herbs can also strengthen a pathogen? Any thoughts on this? Thanks, Acupuncture and Chinese Herbal Medicine 753 N. Main Street, Suite C-1 Cottonwood, AZ 86326 (928) 274-1373 Music Unlimited - Access over 1 million songs. Try it free. But you are right, there are many times where supplementing is 100% necessary to vent the pathogen out. But clearly one can 'strengthen the pathogen' by giving supplementing herbs inappropriately via contributing to phlegm , qi or blood stagnation etc... Basic Dx skills must be applied and evaluating excess and deficiency, interior and exterior, and heat and cold are paramount. If one does this correctly, there is little fear. -
Guest guest
Thanks, Jason. I had thought about further increasing cold and heat as a possible problem, but had overlooked the stagnation angle. This isuseful! wrote: > > > On Behalf Of Andrea Beth > Damsky > Friday, November 25, 2005 8:14 AM > Chinese Herbal Medicine > pathogens, latent pathogens and tonification > > Hi All- > > Is it true that if a person has a pathogen, acute or latent, and they > take tonifying herbs, they will, in effect, be tonifying the pathogen? Guest guest
I have experienced this myself, and students or patients have also reported the effect. After feeling fatigued, a dose of ginseng is taken. Very shortly, severe symptoms of an external pathogenic attack become evident. All the more reason for checking for a floating pulse when fatigue is a symptom! Once exterior-releasing herbs are taken, the symptoms very quickly begin to improve. ......................................
