Guest guest
Hola Herbalistas! I'm working on an article where a " statement of fact in TCM " is presented, specifically " kidney, liver, same mother " . I want to add something that I learned somewhere about biomedicine too as it pretty much states the same thing, but I'm having no luck in finding any supporting information on the web. My understanding is that the (biomedical) liver and kidneys arise from the same embryonic tissue. However, I am unable to locate anything credible or incredible that supports this on-line. I've been searching for [ " embryonic tissue " liver kidney] with no luck. Am I tripping, or do I remember this little factoid correctly? If anybody knows for sure, and can come up with better search criteria, that would be great. Thanks. -- Pain is inevitable, suffering is optional. Guest guest
Al, I have this info on a PDF file from a Homotoxicology class that I took. It seems to point to two different origins though: " There are three basic embryonic tissue layers: Ectoderm, Endoderm, and Mesoderm, which are the source of all human tissues. (See Embryologic Chart) In the progression of embryonic development, the differentiation of tissues occurs according to the following steps: 1) The endoderm differentiates itself from the ectoderm. 2) Cells from the upper layer (primordial ectoderm and mesoderm) involute along the longitudinal midline of the embryo to form the mesoderm. Ectodermal derivatives give rise to the outermost layer of the body - the central and peripheral nervous system, the epidermis, mammary glands, pituitary gland, the epithelium of the nasal cavity, mouth and anal canal, hair, nails, the eye lens, and the enamel of the teeth. Endodermal derivatives include the innermost layer of the body - the epithelial lining of the gastro-intestinal and respiratory tracts, the parenchyma of the tonsils, thyroid, thymus, lungs, pancreas, bladder, and liver. The mesenchyme refers to the cells which form the ventral and medial walls of the mesoderm, characterized by a high rate of proliferation during the fourth week of embryogenesis. Mesenchymal derivatives include connective tissue, cartilage, the skeletal system, and the hematopoietic and lymphatic systems, including the spleen. The remaining Mesodermal derivatives include the kidneys, muscles, reproductive system and the heart plus the serous membranes which line the pericardial, pleural, and peritoneal cavities.
