Wei Qi is the most surface expression of Yang in general. There is

just Yang and when it is in different places doing different things,

we call it something different. When it is in the surface and

effected by day and night cycles, we call it Wei Qi.

If the mechanism of sweating at night from yin-def is that yang cannot enter yin

and therefore results in relative heat, what is the mechanism of night sweats in

heart qi-blood deficiency? Is sweat in both comes from essence or one is fluids

(jing-ye) and the other essence? When wei qi does not secure the surface due to

qi deficiency the sweat is said to come from fluids, so i still have questions

regarding night symptoms resulting from yang-def. Do we assume that night

symptoms in a yang-def patient relate to yin pathogens (blood-stasis or damp

related) or can they be do to pure yang-def?

Also, I have a little trouble with seeing wei qi this way (or as seeing Yang as

just a lot of Qi, etc.). To me each physiological description only makes sense

in relation to the pathological clinical description and treatment. Perhaps it

is my western resistance to full acceptance of CM theoretical constructs. I can

only relate to them in term of clinical descriptions and applications.
