Guest guest
About translating, Last week i had a conversation with my Chinese teacher and he say's that the translation of " night sweating " in Yin Xu is not really a good translation for the Chinese character of it. As he said, the term Night sweating suggest that the sweating in Yin Xu ,only happends at night but this is not merely true. " Night " sweating can even happen in the daytime when someone lays on bed and fall asleep. He said that the Chinese character must be more translated as " sweating while sleeping " or " sweating when you are unconscious " . As this can happen 24 hours a day and not only those 7-8 hours as most people do, is the term " Night " sweating a little misleading. Look at the people who work at night and must sleep in the daytime. Would those people with a Yin Xu not be (night) sweating because they are sleeping in daytime...? After this i asked , but how can that Yin symptom then happens at Daytime which is Yang? He laught a little because he saw my confused face, He said dat western people have the tendency to stick to much to the rules and laws without thinking around them. And how more we stick to those rules , our sight is narrowed. he answered; Sweating at day is indeed mostly associated with a Yang Xu , but there is always Yin within Yang.... You have to look at the mechanisms how things work. While sleeping you bring your body into a Yin condition. The Yin wants to go inside. And when the Yin is in a Xu condition , it cant control the (empty) Heat, so sweating occurs. Dont you loveee :-) (well that was what i said) ......... He said also that Most of the translation are very good now. Much better then 10-20 years ago. But there is still a lot to do in fixing errors. ( and much more to explore) And indeed he says , if you want to understand at a deeper lvl, you have to study Chinese, and even go further : you have to become a Chinese to understand their thinking/feeling. Don't know if this " night " sweating thing was already known , but i thought maybe it's something to put on the list. Well gonna start soon with learning Chinese Zaijian!
