Guest guest
HI! My question is about making a spray for mold control. We have just gutted ,down to the studs, the tub enclosure walls in our bathroom.. Moisture got behind the tiles and there is evidence of some mold. I used a bleach solution spray initially and I want to soak the wood with a spray using cinnamon, clove, tea tree, oregano or ??? else that someone might suggest..We will be installing backerboard and retiling soon..I am hoping that my mold spray will be a deterrant to future growth and problems.. My experience suggests that I need to use something besides or in addition to water so that the EO's are actually dispersed in the spray and have a better chance of soaking into the wood.. I remember Barbara Lucke's offering a recipe for a mold spray that she used when removing carpets.. Anyone have that recipe or another one to share or even info on what to use as an " emulsifier " /disperser? thanks, nancyB

A msg from Barbara posted back in 98 or 99... >I have been using good old tea tree oil for several years to deal with mold >and mildew. It can also be mixed with lavender (my husband prefers the >smell that way). > >The thing that has really impressed me is that a spray of tea tree (I add >about a teaspoon of tea tree and a tablespoon of Everclear or cheap vodka to >about 20 oz of water--you could vary the proportions if you like), will >actually " release " mold and mildew from surfaces where I can not even scrub >it off with any other cleaners. I suspect (I have no scientific proof) that >it is killing the mold/mildew, which could explain why the same spot that I >cannot scrape off otherwise will actually " melt off " after a few minutes >when sprayed with the tea tree spray. Something else...when our family flooded twice, two months apart, I used a nebulizing diffuser with a LITTLE tea tree, but mostly lemon eucalyptus ... it's a powerful antifungal. hope this is what you were looking for.
