Guest guest
Hey folks, A recipe I've been interested in involves infusing herbs in a mix of olive oil and white wine... you simmer it until the wine evaporates. Has anyone here done anything like that? I'd be worried about not getting all of the moisture out and ending up with an oil that would grow nasties sooner or later. I'm also not all that interested in simmering an oil... do you think this would work with jojoba? My impression is that it's ok to heat it a bit more than oils. I wonder how it would work out with the wine evaporation process. Any insights/help would be appreciated! Best, Josh
Guest guest
Hey folks, Sorry for sending that email three times. I thought it wasn't going through! :-( Now that you've forgiven me, do you have any helpful tips to give? :-) Best, Josh

It's basic, but covers all the bases. It's in the Files section. I didn't cover water because, well, mostly that's just tea, pretty easy! http://naturalperfumery.com The premier site on the Web to discover the beauty of Natural Perfume Join to study natural perfumery

Guest guest
Hi Sandi, Wine is a traditional menstruum for infusion, and that's the way the recipe was written. Both the water and the alcohol in wine are solvents. I suppose the goal of the recipe is to get as much out of the herbs as possible (by using the combination of different solvents in one menstruum) and then boil the water & alcohol off in order to preserve the oil. -Josh >Josh, > >What benefit is the wine? > >Sandi >BlackKat Herbs >http://www.blackkatherbs.com >
