Butch & everyone,

Priority Mail boxes are provided free with the intent of using them for

Priority Mail. Anecdotes aside, ALL priority mail boxes have a disclaimer

that they are intended for Priority Mail use only and to do otherwise is a

violation of federal law. So, yeah, it is illegal to use them for anything

else and if you take one to the post office you can rest assured they will

make you mail it Priority or re-pack your stuff.

the boxes are *free* so, postal egos aside, it is understandable why the

Post office would get upset about the boxes being used or re-used not for

Priority Mail. They really have no way of knowing how many times a box has

been used and since they provide them for *free* i think it's their

prerogotive to say you have to use them for Priority Mail no matter what.

So, if you want to re-use a Priority Mail box you CAN, you just need to

still ship it at Priority rates. I have done this a few times myself with

no problems.

Hey y'all,

Comments on Postal Clerks and other jerks .. below.

>>I believe you CAN re-use a box, you just can't take a USPS priority

>>mail box, flip it inside-out, and use it for non-priority mail

>>shipments.

> That's ILLEGAL!!

> I do website order fulfillment for someone and have been at the

> tore the box open and made that person and the choice to either

> BUY a package from their store in the P.O.or GO HOME and repack

I would not accept the above as being an indicator of legality .. or

even correct or incorrect behavior since I am certain there are no LAWS

pertaining to use or reuse of Priority Mail boxes.

Clerks can be Jerks or Efficient/Knowledgeable people .. matters not

what position they are in. If I were in the position of the person the

Jerk gave Bovine Excrement to in this case .. I would have demanded to

see the written authority for such a decision .. and .. I would have

told the Jerk that if they don't produce it .. as a MINIMUM I will file

a formal complaint with their Post Master/Mistress and send copies of it

to others .. maybe even my attorney.

I went to high school with the Post Mistress in my small hometown. She

was a lousy student and she still can't pour pee out of a boot without

written instructions and having one of her assistants interpret them.

The position she has now is the only one she has ever had in her life

that paid more than $5 an hour .. and she thinks that she is at the top

of the food chain .. but she is smart enough to not cross folks in the

town who have some substance .. she only messes with the young, dumb and

downtrodden .. which is not unusual for Clerks and Jerks who are already

operating on the edge of the Peter Principle. ;-)

Y'all keep smiling. :-) Butch http://www.AV-AT.com
