Hail the lowly dandelion, prince among herbs. I've always taught my herbal students that Nature creates an abundance of plants that are the most helpful to mankind. For the last several years, we are seeing St. Johns Wort seeding itself in the Pacific Northwest cities in sidewalk cracks when we used to only see it in the open fields in rural areas along the roadside. I contend that this is Nature attempting to notify and signify . . . Who can dispute this belief with the increase of depression and bipolar maladies on the upswing? Nature is definitely not static. She likes a change now and then. ITA about the need for this wonderful herb. We also have abundant Burdock. Elbert Hubbard Actually, Gayla, the cows do eat it. Dairy farmers remove it from grazing areas because cows, too, can become photosensitized. Also changes their milk, I understand. Great idea to wildcraft those areas and use the plant rather than eradicate it, as some do. Last time I talked to a farmer about permission to harvest a large overrun field, he was ecstatic that someone actually wanted the stuff. We made a LOT of infused oil that year!!
