Guest guest
Hey Jonathan, > Can anyone here enlighten me on something called Humility, how does > it manifest itself in your life, or the lives of those around you, > can we humans seek to learn it if for some reason we dont experience > it though our lives? If so, how do we go about learning this? > > J What it is depends on how you want to describe it .. but basically its the quality or condition of being humble. We can seek to learn it but I'm not sure it would be a positive trait in that it seems to counter the necessity for folks to feel proud of their own actions. If one feels a need to practice or learn humility because another person expects them to do it in order to get along with them .. then they are already on the road to achieving it .. methinks. And they might want to consider whether its possible the other person could be demanding this due to their own personal pride or conceit. I believe we can easily feel humble for short periods of time .. an example might be how one would feel in the presence of greatness .. this is something we run into from time to time if we're lucky. There are many other examples folks could give .. but this one comes to my mind when I see a military person wearing the Congressional Medal of Honor .. and when I think of the actions of the emergency rescue folks I've seem over the years .. like the firemen who lost their lives during 9/11. There are many sides to it though .. sociological, psychological, philosophical and religious .. for example: http://www.brainydictionary.com/words/hu/humility174717.html http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Humility http://www.newadvent.org/cathen/07543b.htm http://www.twopaths.com/humility.htm http://www.darwinmag.com/read/060104/baldoni.html http://www.wisdomquotes.com/cat_humility.html http://www.quotationspage.com/subjects/humility/ There's an ol' American kuntry music song that goes, " Oh Lord, but its hard to be humble .. when you're perfect in every way. " ;-) Y'all keep smiling. :-) Butch http://www.AV-AT.com " Humility is a virtue all preach, none practice, and yet everybody is content to hear. The master thinks it good doctrine for his servant, the laity for for the clergy, and the clergy for the laity. Guest guest
A couple of times when you might think of humility: When you know the perfect answer to the question, but you resist telling to let others find it themselves . . . When you realize that something you fervently believed in was a lie . . . There are others, of course.
