Strep & Earaches

Timely it is that the strep thread came through this week. The kids

across the street whom my older son travels to and from school with came

down with strep over the weekend and we've been doing all we can to keep

it away from here with preventive measures including taking Echinacea

and Astragalus along with Vitamin C and some Oregano oil.

As of this moment we've not come down with strep here, but my older son

did come down with an earache in the middle of the night on Wednesday,

so he stayed home from school yesterday and I doctored him all day. He

is still uncomfortable today - and sleeping now (sleep - the most

important medicine), but he says that he doesn't feel nearly as bad

today as he did yesterday.

I did use an OTC decongestant yesterday to relieve the pressure in his

ears and gave him kids Tylenol to help the pain. He didn't have a raised

temperature, so I wasn't worried about breaking a potentially beneficial

fever.

Under doc's orders:

We're doing some homeopathy - Weleda's Echinacea Compound and Ferrum

phos.

Also, we're using Goldenseal and Vitamin C

I do have a sick room spray that includes essential oils of oregano (O.

dubium) and lemon myrtle (Backhousia citriodora). I've been spraying it

around the house a couple times a day, including on the linens.

Chris (list mom - who really could have used some sleep last night ;-p )
