Advice for a beginer

Greetings all!

I have been hovering for quite awhile and have enjoyed the recent

posts immensely. I am looking for suggestions on how to begin

incorporating aromatherapy into my daily life. As a busy mother of two

I need one thing to start doing daily that will get me hooked and then

I'm more likely to go from there. I have a bunch of books, I even have

some oils that I've used here and there. I'm a creature of strong

habit; I just need to make them better ones. :)

One thing that would probably be a real help is if I could find

something to help me kick the winter blahs. It has been very grey

where I live, I don't go many places (live in country and 2 young

children), and I am also genetically predisposed to depression. I use

everything that I know of to keep myself from falling over the edge,

and I believe all things happen for a reason so this years persistent

blahs mean I need a new method.

All suggestions are greatly appreciated!

Kathryn

Kathryn,

I would suggest Pink Grapefruit EO or some of the other citrus' that you

like for example orange, lemon even lime. Neroli is one of my favorite but

it is more$ than the others.

Chris our list mum has all of these as well as many others on this list.

Hope that helps some.

Hi Kathryn,

One of my daily routines is my aromatherapy shower. I just can't

seem to get going in the morning, so I keep a bottle of rosemary in my

bathroom. I get the shower going and add a few drops of rosemary to

the side of my tub before I get in. The rosemary is a great pick me up.

I try to diffuse oils at least once a day. I live in the snowbelt near

Cleveland

and I *hate* winter! I don't work (outside my home) during the winter,

so

I get cabin fever real quick. I like to diffuse citrus oils. Peppermint

is one

of my favorites too.

Another thing you can do is make up a room spray. Take a small spray

bottle with distilled water and add some oils to it. I personally like a

sweet orange,

grapefruit, and lavender combo. Shake and spray around you and the room.

You add the drops to the side of your tub? This is interesting. I've often

considered how I could get oils into my shower. I even considered trying to

invent some kind of little attachment for the shower head, which of course,

went nowhere since I am not inclined that way. :)

So, the side of the tub... I guess I should give that a try. :)

Hi Susan,

Side of the tub is the quickest easiest way I have found.

Last year I made some bath bombs with rosemary and used those in my

shower. It worked very well. And I guess I am not the only one who

thinks

so because I recently saw a commercial for Vicks (I think) that used some

kind

of effervescent drop with eucalyptus to put in the shower when you have a

cold.

As far as the shower head, I know that I have seen some that you can buy

that has a little cup on the bottom that you add eo's to and it diffuses

it into

your shower water. I think they were quite expensive, though.

============I've seen the commercials -- and I was thinking of those when I

responded. :) When you say bombs, are you talking about the formed

compressed powered salts? I hadn't thought about that either -- I guess it

works in the shower just like it would in the tub although you'd lose the

fizzie stuff, but I don't care about that anyway. I use to make bath bags

out of the large tea bags -- used a number of herbs and oils for the bath. I

don't see why you couldn't use something like that in the shower as well,

although I can't imagine the herbs would be of any use that way -- but the

oils certainly would work Ok. I'm for the easiest route possible though, and

if the side of the tub works, no reason to put a lot of extra work into it.

:)

Thanks for the suggestion. I always wanted to do something in the

morning with my shower.

Hi Barbara,

I put it at the far end of the tub and it slowly disintegrated. As it

disintegrated it

filled the shower with the aroma. Yes, it does eventually end up going down the

drain, but

I have finished showers before it was completely dissolved.

Thanks but now I have another question. I have a shower stall which I

figure I could use but my question is do the oils discolour the walls

since they are not the painted enamel the tubs are. I have seen oils

discolour a lot of things.

Also with it being a shower stall would direct contact with the oil via

my feet be getting it neat? Oil and water from what I understand do

not mix very well or do I even have to think this thought?

I sure do appreciate the information.

My tub is one of those fiberglass inserts and I have never had a problem with

any staining. I have used rosemary, sweet orange, lavender, and eucalyptus.

Those are all light oils though.

If you are using a shower stall, I would put the oil on the wall where the water

won't directly hit it or it will wash away quickly.

As far as your feet, I would not worry. I am sure the water would dilute it very

quickly. If you put it on the wall, it probably would evaporate before it ever

gets near the floor.

No problem! I think everyone should start their day with an aromatic shower! : )
