Guest guest
Hey Josh, >>God Bless Teachers, cause I'll agree with this .. and God Bless the Cops and Firemen and Military folks too .. those four occupations put up with a lot of crap and are almost always paid far less than they should be paid. > Eh. After reading the Teenage Liberation Handbook, I'm very > suspicious of teachers. You know, to become a therapist, you have to > do your own mental self-healing work first, see a therapist, etc... > to become ordained clergy, at least in the program I'm familiar with, > you have to show that you're doing it for the right reasons, that you > truly feel called, etc.... and etc... do teachers go through anything > similar? Or do they giving teaching credentials to anyone who can pay > the money and pass the classes? Sincere question. Good question this is. We might wanna apply the same question to other professions .. like medical doctors and dentists .. and I will include police and fire fighters and professional military folks too. I really question the " calling " to the ministry because I have a few friends who failed at every other job they had .. to include manual labor .. so they decided to take up preaching in some little church. They get to live in the parsonage, get a free automobile and gas/maintenance expenses paid, get a reasonable salary and get to eat at other folks homes at least once a week .. normally more than once. For many ministers/preachers .. the Hell Fire and Damnation role is not a lot different than any other acting job. I question the sincerity of almost all who claim to be into altruism. Often its a wannabe thing and due to guilt or a seeking of self .. and in some cases its a role .. like a call to the ministry or to medicine. Of course there are exceptions .. but they are just that. ;-) In this old world we do what we can to make a living and we don't always have to like what we go into .. or continue to like what we think we might like before we go into it. I don't have the reference handy now but I did read (in the last year or so) a poll that showed that a large percentage (twas over half) of the Americans polled would do something else if they could switch. Seeing as we can't always switch .. most of the folks who stay employed continue to do the best they can even when in occupations they don't particularly like. I always wanted to be a Game Warden/Wildlife Conservation Officer. But at age 17 (when I graduated from high school) my family's financial situation was such that I had few choices .. so I joined Uncle Sugar's Army and spent 30 years in uniform. During the last 20 years of that period, while in the US and serving as either Military Police Operations Officer or Provost Marshal, I was able to do that to some degree in that MPs control wildlife and serve as game wardens on Department of Defense property .. but it was not the same as being a professional and doing it day in and day out. > -Josh Y'all keep smiling. :-) Butch http://www.AV-AT.com
