Guest guest
Hi y'all, Lots of new folks on line so I'll clarify my coordinates. Though I am presently living in Ankara, my store and wholesale/retail warehouse is in Downtown Friendsville, Maryland .. population 597. ;-) A couple of folks have written me off line and inquired about our safety since protests over the " drawings " have also been held here in Turkey, though the protests here have not been violent. We're fine .. changing nothing in our lifestyle .. except my wife goes nowhere unless I am with her .. I even escort her to her English classes two nights a week and pick her up afterward. Protests are not allowed in the area in which we live or the area where her school is .. and we don't frequent those areas where they are allowed in any case. My Turkish friends think this explosion of anger is foolish .. but they are not the majority. I don't associate with the majority .. just as I would not associate with Christian fundamentalists in the USA .. and by that I mean .. those who follow the gurus like Pat Robertson and Jerry Falwell. I believe (and the smart Turks believe) that Condi Rice hit the nail on the head when she said the violent protests were being fueled by Islamic extremist groups and the governments of Iran and Syria. I also feel more secure here than I would in most of the large cities in the United States .. or Europe. So .. all is well .. and we're smiling. Y'all keep smiling too. :-) Butch http://www.AV-AT.com
