Guest guest
The thread on calendula got me thinking of something I’ve wondered about for along time. We use all kinds of botanicals in soaps, salves and lotions, mostly based on common wisdom about herbs that comes from all kinds of sources. Back in my young days, we used to make marijuana brownies and cookies. We knew you had to cook the pot with butter because THC is soluble in animal fat but not in vegetable oil. Those days are gone, but today I use various herbs in soaps as well as in the kitchen. My question is this: how do we know if the healing virtues of the herbs we use are actually present in a form our bodies can use? I have many herb books, and have looked in vain for notations that say “soluble in alcohol or fat, not in water” or the equivalent. Does anyone have any input on this matter?
