Guest guest
Tattoo Care - Naturally Anyway - the point of this post is not to brag about my tat *lol*, but to discuss the after care of it. It was recommended to me by her that I use A & D Ointment for the first few days and then use a basic, unscented, preferably " glycerin based " lotion for a couple weeks afterward. Well, after looking at all the ingredients in A & D and the lotion I determined that I can make a better after care product than either of those things *lol* Basically the A & D is cod liver oil, mineral oil and wax - to make a salve that more coats than absorbs. That can easily be done with the cod liver oil and beeswax (can use " purified " even if folks want to be really " sterile " about it). And the glycerin unscented lotion is easy .. AND she has a buddy who uses lavender oil for the healing process and has great results, so using lavender hydrosol in the water phase of the lotion is the way to go IMHO. If anyone wants to be a guinea pig for my new " after ink " concoction, give me a holler offline and I'll send ya some to try out and give me feedback on! *Smile* Chris (list mom) Hi Chris, Last August I actually got a small tatoo over my heart. I did this on the one year anniversary of my Daddy's passing. I had never thought that I would be one to get a tatoo but somehow our thoughts change as we get older, yes? Anyway, the tatoo artist slathered my new artwork with " Bag Balm " and recommended that I purchase some for the aftercare. I didn't even check out the ingredients of the Bag Balm but I suspected that it was probably some kind of petroleum product or mineral oil base and these are ingredients that I always try to stay away from. What I used on my tatoo was a product called " Healing Skin Balm " by Samara Botane. This balm is a wonderful lotion bar that contains Chaulmoogra oil and Calendula infused oil along with many other skin-loving ingredients. My tatoo healed beautifully and I still used the " Healing Skin Balm " on the tatoo about once a week just to keep it in good condition. Maybe we need to " train " the tatoo artists about some of the wonderful natural alternatives that are available for tatoo aftercare?
