Guest guest
Butch thank you so much for a very informative post on harvesting and distillation. There is so much misinformation out there from folks who do not have your hands-on experience. I'm not a newbie, but am always learning (and hopefully always will be) and I'm very glad to be a part of this group! Leann A mind, like a parachute, works best when open. Guest guest
Hi Donna, > Butch, thank you so much for this post! Fascinating reading!! Welcome you are fer'shur and glad it was of some interest to you. :-) > I really had no idea where the eo's (or the spices we get at the store) > come from & how they are harvested & produced...it is certainly good > info to have! Good it is to know this because it helps us to weed through some of the marketing hype that is out and about. The information I provided is not normally found in the AT novels and I think folks need to deal with the realities of this industry .. there are no secrets to the production of EO .. the only time secrets come in is when larger outfits adulterate EO or smaller outfits either knowingly or unknowingly misrepresent the facts in order to market their products. Giving folks the correct info enables them to make informed decisions .. that is important. > The sheer volume of material needed to make just a small amount of eo > (or whatever) just boggles the mind. Yep .. matter of fact. Off the top of my head I think the lowest yielding aromatics are Rose, Jasmine, Vitex and Melissa .. if I took the time I could probably list others but this info will give you an idea of why they are so highly priced. And keep in mind that an entire infrastructure exists for the production of Rose Otto .. an infrastructure that sits idle for 11 or more months a year because NOTHING is distilled in those Hydro Distillation units but Rose Otto. This is costly unto itself. The other stills can be used for various aromatics but that's not the case with the Rose units. > This is such a great list. I'm not surprised it is the fastest growing > one on the net. I have learned more here than anywhere else. Good it is and right you are .. and I have always believed that the personality of the list has sorta adapted to the personality of the ex-Yankee, now Texas Suthran gal List Mama .. News Groups have a tendency to adapt to the style of the List Owners. ;-) > Thank you sir, for your knowledge & wisdom. Welcome fer'shur .. what I know comes from having lived a bit longer than some folks .. and having been fortunate enough to choose to live at least half of my life outside the USA .. and 40% of that time living in a country that has an abundance of wild aromatics. > Have a wonderful day!!! > donna And you .. and a gud weekend .. and y'all keep smiling. :-) > Donna Buchholz > Something Different Soap & Things > www.somethingdifferentsoap.com Butch http://www.AV-AT.com
