Can anybody advise? most of what is available today is distilled from the leaves. Now, years ago, there was a distiller in Corsica who I believe was distilling the resin...it smelled much deeper and more 'tangy' than the Spanish Cistus I've been able to find the last two years. But he stopped distilling it in the late 90's, I bought all I could at that time, and have ONE 5 ml bottle left in my personal stash. If you have access to the Resin oil I would suggest snagging all you can... and if you would email me your source, I'd be very grateful! Also, I would request samples of both. The resin oil was deeper and more 'tangy', as I said... aromatically closer to the absolute than the steam distilled leaf oil in my experience. If they smell about the same, then odds are the resin may be mislabeled. Also, expect the resin to be a good bit more expensive than the leaf oil. The producer I knew stopped distilling it because gathering the raw material was so difficult. This will be reflected in the cost. >BTW my fav. eo at present is Elemi - for soap it seems to retain its >luscious lemony smell, doesn't contain citral so there is no discoloration, >doesn't seem to be interested in overheating and apparently is good for old >skin!
