Guest guest
" I usually mix all the oils together (including superfatting oils) before I add my lye water. Shelley " Amen to that Shelly. It's hard to change soaping habits. You adjust your superfat my adjusting the amount of lye. NOT by adding oils at trace. IMO NO flaming please we all do it diff. just wanted Dave to see the other side. Most of the soap calculators out there use way to much water. One has to stir a long time to get trace with the full amount of water recommended. A few years back someone posted that lye x 2 or lye x 2.2 was all the water that was needed. It might be better to experiment with your small batches and try soaping with the DWCP method. I use Lye X 1.70 to determine my water. When I have a " fast " FO or EO I add an extra ounce or two. Works for me - with nearly 2,000 bars made this year- we have had just one batch that got thick in the pot - as my notes did not indicate to add the extra water. -- Be Well, Bobbi Guerra www.thepurplesage.com sales

Im aware that there are different schools of thought on this. I gave my opinion based on my own experiences, but Im willing to try different things. Ive read articles that support the way I do it, and to be honest Ive never heard of adding superfatting oils at the beginning. But hey, if it works, thats all that matters --
Guest guest
Is there anyone who can explain this superfatting stuff in idiot lingo? For some reason, when I see adding other oils to soaps and explaining the process, my brain grabs its hat and says " I'm otta here " kinda like my ex-husband whenever I had any complaints about him. Someone tried to explain it to me before, but my brain still copped out. Anyone else like me? I'm boring, I've just been sticking with the Coconut, Palm Kernal and Olive Pomace, but I would really love to branch out with some new ideas and adding different oils.
