Guest guest
Here's my method. This is for 8 lbs of fixed oils + lye + water + fragrance Lye at ROOM TEMP - make it up the night before Oils at 90 degrees Add the FO to the oils BEFORE adding the lye. EXCEPTION - if you are swirling and the FO is know to accelerate - add it warmed AFTER taking out the raw soap that you will color and use for the swirl. Add the lye water to the oils. Use your stick blender to emulsify - (no oils showing - you know that the oils and water are blending) turn the stick blender on and stir with it - NO need to dirty another spoon or whisk. Hit it with the stick blender - then stir - then stick blend till very light trace. One problem soapers have is they think trace means something that it's NOT. All you need is to see very SLIGHT swirls (aka snail trails) on the top of the soap to know that it has come together. My raw soap is verrry thin when I pour (unless I hurry and don't wait for the oils to cool OR the FO catches me by surprise). I have a squirrel cage from Linda at Upland Soap - It works nicely when I have large orders - then I use a larger bucket and make two batches at a time - like 22 lbs in all. IMHO the stick blender is the ticket for smaller batches. HTH -- Be Well, Bobbi Guerra www.thepurplesage.com sales
