Guest guest
Hello everyone, Well it is almost summer here in Houston and the flowers are just going crazy. Altho they bloom all year round, they are just in full bloom now. Beautiful. My question is, what can I do with all these gorgous hibiscus blooms? Roses I dry and make rose water or rose oil, can you do the same with Hibiscus? Are there some qualities that the hibiscus petals can add to my lotions and soaps? I have so many different colors of flowers and they are just non stop. Hate to just let them keep falling to the ground if I can use them ya know. Anxious to hear if anyone has any ideas.. Oh yeah, had one of my plants a red triple bloom hibiscus fall of my porch and the maintenance guys planted it 2 years ago, it is now 6 feet tall and a good 7 feet around, producing an abundance of flowers every week!! Never knew you could actually plant the things!! Guest guest
Hi Gloria...I don't know why you can't dry them...I buy them dried all the time for potpourri...I think in ayurvedic medicine they have some benefits to the hair...some of the more " advanced " herbalists on the list may have more info on that... I have a Hibiscus bush that I'm fixing to plant...I hope it does well....when I lived on St. Croix a year ago I had Hibiscus bushes growing all over my yard... & bougainvillea also...in every beautiful color...they just grew wild!! They are one of my favorite flowers...next to roses of course! have a wonderful afternoon!! donna PS: I live just to the west of ya!!! In Victoria! Guest guest
> I think in ayurvedic medicine they have some benefits to the hair... Just be careful if you try to use it as part of a wash for your hair; it'll turn it pinkish! Temporarily, of course. When dried, the petals make a fantastic, red tea. One of my favorites! They're also really nice sor the skin in the bath, where they'll turn the water a pretty pink as well. Love Hibiscus! Guest guest
Unless you are allergic to them, I love hibiscus, but they hate me, I would still love to plant them in my yard one day, when I get a yard again that is Blessings to You and Yours, Christina ---- Rebecca Jones > I think in ayurvedic medicine they have some benefits to the hair... Guest guest
Hey Donna, Gloria . . . others interested, Hibiscus flowers are also a wonderful addition to tea blends (or simply a tea by themselves) . . . Full of vitamin C. Be Well, Marcia Elston http://www.wingedseed.com <http://www.wingedseed.com/> " Give thanks for a little and you will find a lot. Guest guest
Almost summer, gee! The snow is still melting in some patches. Crocusses blooming, Lungwort coming out any day now, and I started a nice dandelion tincture since I cannot stand seeing those juicy roots going to waste while I am weeding.
