I've got some very serious news for anyone using sandalwood EO from

NOW. Two weeks ago I had made a leg cream out of it and I gave it to

my neighbor. A week later they found her dead and she had the cream

laying on the bed next to her--- they did an autopsy. The coroner said

it was a reaction to the sandalwood that reacted with her Hormone

Replacement Therapy (HRT). They tried to find out where she got the

cream, but the jar was unlabeled so they did'nt know it was mine. I'm

too scared to tell anyone. The only ingredients were Sandalwood, cocoa

butter and olive oil. The coroner indicated that it was the sandalwood

that caused the reaction.

God this list is so boring.lol

People need to know about this. This is scary stuff. I am racking my brain to

Whew, you're a brave one! (Or something.) I wouldn't have the nerve to

post something like this....especially naming a brand name like NOW Foods.

I usually don't post much, am too busy reading all the correct info that is

posted here, but I can't believe that someone would have the gall to post

something like this, especially if it was done out of pure boredom because "

this

list is boring " .

For the person that wrote that post and did not have the guts to sign such

trash, I hope you realize that such things are not a joke and are taken very

seriously, especially by those that make hand-crafted soaps, lotions, etc, and

have a hard enough time dealing with the FDA, ins co's, etc, without you adding

fuel to the fire.

I've bought NOW products for years, before I even made soaps or even knew

that there were better quality EO's out there, and have never had a problem with

them, and still buy them for " quick fixes " .

But because of someone's games, a company that probably didn't have any

problems and sold a half-way decent product is now going to be looked at like

they

did wrong.

That's not cool either.

In my opinion, you have tried to sabotage a huge group of hard working

individuals that take great pride and care in creating each and every one of

their

items.

Shame on you!

True story or not it does make a person think about their own products and

liability. This really enforces what I am always saying - do research, lots and

lots of it. When you think you are done, research some more. You can never know

too much about anything and there is no such thing as being too careful.

I have to state that I think it is totally irresponsible, let alone illegal, to

make up " a cream " and give it to someone to use with no labelling whatsoever.

If you are for real, and I really seriously doubt that this is, then you deserve

to have everyone land on you with both feet, including the FDA, and the police.

..

I also noted that you could not even sign your message - what should be the

first clue?

In case you didn't notice the original message was signed and came from

Martha Keister at a legitimate address soapsis. I would expect

this to be enough to identify a person.

>I have to state that I think it is totally irresponsible, let alone

I believe that this seems to be the case where a person (Martha) might

need some professional rebuke (although I'm not even sure about that)

but they also may need help and support, a great deal of it. Much more

so, actually, than when someone comes to the list and complains that

they were not properly welcomed to the group - in which case everyone

seems to be very eager to provide support and apologies.

No offense meant to anyone. Just for fairness sake.

Martha, please hang on there. I am not sure if you've done anything

wrong but emotionally it's very hard regardless. You and your friend

will be in my prayers tonight.

Cheers,

Nika

don't know about your computer, but on mine it shows the post came from Martha

Keister soapsis .... doesn't take much to google Martha Keister and

get a real addy, complete with phone number. IF Martha really did post this and

IF she is the Martha located in Culver City, CA that my reverse look up gave me

.......... let's just say I am waiting to hear back from a few places in Culver

City about a 'mysterious death'. If this turns out to be a hoax, I really hope

the list mom deals with this to the full extent allowed by and possibly

any other ways allowed by U.S. law. I own a few lists on and if someone

were to post a hoax like this, any and all authorities I could find would be

notified and because this is the internet, that would include the FBI.

I find it 'interesting' that 'Martha " didn't include any way to verify any of it

- no link to news paper stories, local news, etc......

Oh, I can believe it........There are people that would cause an uproar

just to satisfy their own moronic need. She " Miss Martha " is more than

likely getting her jolly's and certainly isn't bored. But at what cost.....

fledgling crafter's that, because they are so eager to learn, take this kind

of post as gospel. I've gotten to the point that, unless I can have it

substantiated, I don't believe anything I read of this nature.

So, Newbies, beware.....of such nonsense. If in doubt ask someone that has

the knowledge and that is trustworthy. Not trying to put him on the spot,

but Butch is very savvy as is Chris in speaking about essential oils. Bar

that, do the research yourself.

As far as this post is concerned, whomever is responsible should be banned

from any group that they are on. It is beyond disgraceful to do this in the

name of boredome...It has happened before and will more than likely happen

again.

Go do something constructive for heaven's sake.

NOW is getting a bad

reputation, but if this is the cause of her death, I am horrified...We use

mostly Aura

Cacia, but we have a few EO's made by NOW..no sandalwood, though.

[Dave:] NOW essential oils are low quality, and there have been purity

issues. My understanding is that lab tests have revealed adulterants in

their EOs. Some of them are fine for soapmaking and general household use

(lavender, tea tree), but no way would I use them in any product that was

intended to have a therapeutic purpose. We don’t use sandalwood because it

is severely endangered.

I have NEVER read such gubbins since last time I wrecked my eyes reading

a YL web site....

I could spend an hour reasoning the why & why nots this couldn't have

happened - starting with imeadeate international headlines calling for a

ban on Sandalwood - and all EO's - led by an emergency meeting of the EU

consumer products committee, alerted by the FDA - this kind of thing

just wouldn't stay *local* - and ending with how convenient the cream

was laying on the bed next to her.... But I've not got the time to waste

on your silly prank.

Not funny Martha, You may be bored, but find some other place to vent

your dissatisfaction with life - or get a life.

[Dave:] I have a feeling that someone is playing a joke on us. But it

highlights the dangers we put ourselves in when we make our “natural”

products and give them to people with the implication – if not an actual

claim – that it will do something good for them. There is always the

possibility that someone will react to something. I hope this didn’t really

happen.
