Guest guest
Hi y'all, Even a joke that might offend some folks (come to think on it .. those that don't are danged near non-existent in today's phony Politically Correct world) can be used as a tool for learning because there will be an element of truth contained therein .. like it or not. Life can be a real natural bitch at times .. we don't gotta work hard at making it so .. but good it is (methinks) to sorta laugh it off whenever we can. Its our choice .. but laughing beats the Hell outta frowning .. and there is much evidence to support the fact that humor is a necessary emotion for rapid healing. In any case .. since we want to learn from time to time (as well as laugh a bit) lets grab some learning from the post from a list member on the above subject. ;-) The below is a compilation of information from two sources .. Martin Watt and yours truly. We've both written on this too many times. There is no scientific information suggesting that Sandalwood oil can affect the hormone system. Those in the know would quickly grasp that the alleged coroner was talking hogwash .. or .. it was a tall tale. Even for those few chemicals that are known to absorb .. such a reaction would require a very significant volume be absorbed and I know of NO essential oil that can be absorbed via the skin in a sufficient amount to have a major effect on the hormone system. It is doubtful that even drinking Mysore Sandalwood could cause such a reaction in that the LD-50 tests for this oil show that a lethal dose for a 3 year old would be roughly 70 ml .. NOBODY can drink even 10 ml! Drinking a bottle of EO is a bit like trying to drown oneself in a toilet bowl. In the past, Mysore Sandalwood is shown to have been taken internally for bladder infections with no reports of adverse effects, and lots of evidence to support the fact that it had no negative effects. If a coroner had real concern over this product it would have been reported to the FDA .. and we would have seen an alert .. not to mention half the news media putting out stories paid for by the pharmaceutical companies. On Absorption .. first .. the pores are NOT designed for absorption .. they are for elimination .. as a matter of routine, it doesn't work both ways. True it is that certain chemical components can absorb deeply .. and those chemical components are known. One is Methyl salicylate .. found in Wintergreen and Sweet Birch. Bad stuff this is .. it can kill. The skin is the biggest protective organ of the body .. if it stopped working we would be spending a lot of time in the emergency room. Mama Nature determined that man was more likely to come into contact with dangerous substances via skin contact at the hands and feet .. thus, they have the thickest layer of skin. So much for the bogus claims of absorption using garlic on the feet as an example. When we put EO on our feet or head or back or butt .. matters not .. what happens is the volatile molecules in the air are inhaled through the olfactory system and that is where any benefit will come from. Sweat glands, or eccrine glands, are found over the entire surface of the body, except the lips, external ear canal, and labia minora. They are most concentrated in the palms and soles of the feet. The normal function of the gland is to produce sweat, which cools the body by evaporation. They do not allow absorption. The skin varies in thickness based on its anatomic location and the sex and age of an individual. Skin is thickest on the palms and soles of the feet, while the thinnest skin is found on the eyelids and in the post auricular region. So Mama Nature was smart. The role of Keratin .. or .. why we don't drown when we bathe. http://www.newton.dep.anl.gov/askasci/bio99/bio99696.htm Skin absorption is not possible with all chemicals. SOME chemicals in an EO absorb to some depth .. not all chemicals in an EO can absorb deeply. So .. we must admit that we do not need pure, unadulterated, WHOLE EO to get total therapeutic value .. or .. we must admit that we get NO value from partial absorption of SOME chemicals from SOME EO. Truth is, the chemicals that absorb are the harmful ones .. those that can cause sensitization. Some information on absorption of chemicals .. http://www.nohsc.gov.au/OHSInformation/NOHSCPublications/fulltext/docs/h5/887.ht\ m Finally .. an article by Martin Watt .. http://www.nature-helps.com/agora/skinabso.htm Something that is more of a concern to me now than the post we were discussing .. or the lack of absorption of whole EO .. is the breaking news I just saw a few minutes ago on TV. It seems that the US Congress has been hit by a series of mysterious explosions. The explosions were attributed to " large quantities of gas, generated through many weeks of verbose debate. " ;-) Y'all keep smiling. :-) Butch http://www.AV-AT.com Wholesale/Retail GC Tested EO, Rose Products, Tested Hydrosols and other goodies shipped from our store in Downtown Friendsville, MD. Pop: 597 PS: I feel like crying .. but I reckon I won't cause we're gonna have a big supper of lamb chops and Russian tater salet tonight .. and a bottle of good ol Kavaklidere Red Yakup wine. Why do I wanna cry? Cause I got this danged 85 Mercedes that ain't worth a plugged nickel .. but its what is called a " Blue Plate " car in that its not Turkish .. I bought it in 1995 from the Chinese Embassy here. Anyway .. I am now turning that baby over to Turkish Customs .. because .. my options are .. ship it out or turn it in .. IF .. I want to get a better car. The value of that car in the USA is scrap .. here .. maybe $1,500 .. but .. I can't sell it so I gotta turn it in .. and I gotta pay Turkish Customs $3,500 to do this. :-( A year ago .. it would have cost me less than $100 .. and the Turkish Customs folks are telling me that even though the law is the law .. they too think it sucks .. but they showed me that they are now abiding by the Social Democratic rules of the European Union. Three Cheers For Big Brother .. overprotection of the masses sorta classifies as being dictatorial .. methinks. ;-)
