Dave, I have to totally agree with you. I am trying to slowly start up a business and my other half is like " business is brutal, you only get to the top by cutting others down, leave all the marketing up to me " and I am sitting here in the background jumping up and down going " hang on a second! I want my business to have integrity and sincerity . . . i dont just wanna make a buck and not give a shize about my customers! " . well, he disagrees with me, i said " please learn about my products and what each oil does and how the aromatherapy works so you can at least market that to them " well he is still yet to pick up any of my notes or a book or anything, so he is no longer being a part of my business. its sad, as he wants to help and it didnt go down too well but what can ya do. I am a nice person and I believe in doing business with nice people and being honest is a huuuuge thing to give you credibility and even though that is the longer road to take because building up a reputation isnt a very easy thing to do from scratch, at least you know that you have truly earned your stripes. I know I am getting worked up about this, but it is relevant to me at this point in time and i am just sick of seeing people just out to make a buck, regardless of how they treat others. And then providing poor products (one good example is receving cut essential oils that you think are 100% EO). . . I mean you get what you pay for, so if people want diluted EOs for example, so it is cheaper, it would be nicer to market it as a dilution! Then you still have your integrity. In the end, who feels good about unfairly taking someone's money? The consumer loses out, and the seller loses out because wouldnt they feel bad afterwards? I couldnt imagine anyone not feeling bad afterwards, as I definitely would! and not to mention the bad reputation you get!! I am only young so I guess I have a lot to learn in this world still, but I cant believe ppl out there (I have read all about YL as well - grrr!) can actually do this to people and get away with it. Well I guess it has always happened and will keep on happening. We just have to get smart about who we deal with and chose only the nice ones!!!! LOL at least it keeps the bad ones outta businness ya know. Anyway off my soapbox!!! I never usually pipe up in here, and can be very opinionated (but have learnt to hold my tongue hehe) so I hope noone has gotten offended by what I have said! Thanks. And happy easter everyone Justine PS. I am a centrist bordering on liberal (from that politics quiz a few days ago) does that have anything to do with where I am coming from?! I think we need a new paradigm. In the past, it’s been: what will the market bear? I think it should be: what’s the least I can charge and still thrive? _____ -- Version: 7.1.385 / Virus Database: 268.4.1/312 - Release 4/14/2006 -- Version: 7.1.385 / Virus Database: 268.4.1/312 - Release 4/14/2006
Guest guest
<-----I am a nice person and I believe in doing business with nice people.> You go girl. This is the wave of the future. Be small, local, personal, find your niche and do it better than anyone else. The big cut-throat stuff will all move to China. And to Africa from there once the Chinese start to be more demanding. But that is another topic. Ien in the Kootenays, aka PollyAnna ************************** Stop. Breathe. I just haven't broken through the glass ceiling of doing a $100 show. I would have to sell almost everything to make that much. I sell the soap for $3 a bar and room sprays for $5 for 2 ounces. Everyone tells me to raise the prices but I don't want to feel like I'm ripping the folks off.
